Theremin, Past and Future / Workshop with Laurent Dailleau

Workshop

Saturday 12 May 12
2 pm - 5 pm
Fee: Free entry with reservation +33(0)1 58 88 3000
Audience: All public

Invented in 1919 by Leon Theremin in Saint-Petersburg, the theremin was the first electronic instrument in the history of music. Due to its distinctive characteristic, it was also the first musical instrument to be controlled remotely, using two antennas. Despite its relative obscurity during the 20th century (outside of a few film scores in the 1950s and "exotica music" around the same time), the theremin has grown in popularity over the last ten years, both in experimental and in contemporary music.

The workshop will be divided into presentations on the theremin's history and music, and public participation in experiments on a theremin linked to a computer and the MaxMSP software.

LAURENT DAILLEAU

A composer, thereminist, exhibition organiser, and dedicatee for numerous pieces for the theremin, Laurent Dailleau has also composed stage music for theatre and dance since 1982. Both in a group and solo, he takes part in numerous musical projects incorporating a theremin, records albums and appears regularly on stage in France and abroad.
